When you’ve already dragged yourself down to the laundrette and managed to get a load washed, it’s always tempting to save a bit more time and cash by skipping the dryer.

But the slightly annoying truth is that using the dryer will actually save you time, hassle, and even keep your favourite pieces in better shape. And you won’t have to worry about musty smells, condensation or crispy jeans, ever again. Here are five reasons you should never skip the dryer.

  1. It’s much faster than air-drying
Bang everything straight in the dryer, and you also get to skip hanging up wet clothes (boring) and waiting for those wet clothes to air-dry (even more boring).

A quick drying cycle, then, and you’ll have everything done before you know it. So you can back to the stuff you want to be doing, in the clothes you want to be wearing.

  1. No sunshine required
Ever tried to air-dry your cosiest hoodie on a cold, damp day? It doesn’t go too well, does it? Use a dryer, and you don’t have to wait for fair weather – it’ll get you the same results regardless of rain, humidity or cold temperatures.

A dryer comes also comes in extra handy when you don’t have outdoor space or a well-ventilated indoor area. Plus, you won’t be tempted to put anything on the radiators – one of the biggest causes of damp and mould in student accommodation!

  1. Your clothes will be softer
Tumble drying loosens fabrics after a wash cycle, which means they’ll come out of the drum feeling softer and much comfortable. So, while items like bath towels, jeans and other heavier garments can often go like cardboard during air-drying, tumble-drying will keep them cosy.
  2. More hygienic, fewer allergens
The high heat of a drying cycle will quickly kill off bacteria and pesky dust mites hiding in your clothes – ideal if you’re washing your bedding or towels.

Air-drying outdoors can also expose your clothes to allergens like pollen, which happily cling to wet fabric. Use the dryer and you might just save yourself a few sneezes too.

  1. Reduces wrinkles
When there’s already studying, binge-watching and chilling on the to-do list, who’s got time for ironing?

Drying means less ironing – simple as that. That’s because many dryers come with wrinkle-release or steam settings that reduce the need for ironing, and stop you having to go through the whole process back at your place.

Even better, dryers can fluff up your clothes, helping to maintain their shape and texture for longer. Just don’t forget to check the care label!

Why become a weekday washer?

Weekends should be a time for seeing your mates, catching up on rest, and doing more of the stuff you actually enjoy – not for tackling your laundry basket.
